Data Centre Commissioning Engineers – Electrical and Mechanical
Location: Narvik, Norway
Contract length: Nine months
Rotation: Two weeks on / one week off
Working schedule: Six days per week, ten paid hours per day

Role overview
We are recruiting Electrical and Mechanical Commissioning Engineers for a major data-centre construction project in Narvik, Norway.
These are initial nine-month contracts supporting the commissioning, testing and handover of mission-critical electrical and mechanical infrastructure. Contractors will work on a two-weeks-on, one-week-off rotation, completing six ten-hour shifts during each working week.
Direct data-centre commissioning experience is required. Candidates must have previously supported the testing and commissioning of critical electrical or mechanical systems through relevant commissioning stages.
Position 1: Electrical Commissioning Engineer
The Electrical Commissioning Engineer will support the inspection, testing, energisation and functional verification of critical electrical systems throughout the data-centre commissioning programme.
Responsibilities
- Execute electrical commissioning activities across relevant commissioning levels.
- Perform pre-functional, functional and integrated systems testing.
- Test LV electrical distribution systems and associated critical-power equipment.
- Complete insulation-resistance, continuity, dead and live testing.
- Support energisation and switching activities.
- Test switchgear, switchboards, busbars, PDUs and distribution equipment.
- Support commissioning of UPS systems, battery systems and generators.
- Verify ATS/STS operation, interlocks, alarms and protection systems.
- Review electrical schematics, single-line diagrams and commissioning procedures.
- Identify faults, record defects and coordinate corrective actions and retesting.
- Complete test sheets, commissioning reports, punch lists and handover documentation.
- Coordinate with construction teams, vendors, clients and other commissioning disciplines.
- Follow site safety requirements, including RAMS, LOTO and permit-to-work procedures.
Electrical requirements
- Previous electrical commissioning experience on data-centre projects.
- Experience with LV distribution, switchgear and critical-power systems.
- Knowledge of UPS systems, batteries, generators, PDUs and busbars.
- Experience conducting insulation-resistance, continuity, dead and live testing.
- Ability to read electrical schematics and single-line diagrams.
- Experience preparing and completing commissioning documentation.
- Strong understanding of electrical safety and energisation procedures.
- Industrial electricians with substantial data-centre testing and commissioning experience may also be considered.
Position 2: Mechanical Commissioning Engineer
The Mechanical Commissioning Engineer will support the inspection, testing, balancing and functional verification of the data centre’s HVAC and cooling infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Execute mechanical commissioning activities across relevant commissioning levels.
- Perform system walkdowns and verify mechanical completion.
- Support flushing, pressure testing, cleaning and system preparation.
- Commission chilled-water systems, pumps, pipework, valves and associated equipment.
- Support testing of chillers, CRAHs, CRACs, AHUs and ventilation systems.
- Verify equipment operation against design requirements and sequences of operation.
- Support TAB, functional performance testing and integrated systems testing.
- Identify installation or performance issues and coordinate corrective actions.
- Manage punch items and support retesting through to closure.
- Review drawings, P&IDs, commissioning procedures and technical documentation.
- Produce test records, commissioning reports and handover documentation.
- Coordinate with electrical, BMS, controls, vendor and construction teams.
- Follow site safety requirements, including RAMS, LOTO and permit-to-work procedures.
Mechanical requirements
- Previous mechanical commissioning experience on data-centre projects.
- Experience with mission-critical HVAC and cooling systems.
- Knowledge of chilled-water systems, pumps, valves and pipework.
- Experience with chillers, CRAHs, CRACs, AHUs or similar cooling equipment.
- Experience with flushing, pressure testing, TAB and functional testing.
- Ability to read mechanical drawings, P&IDs and sequences of operation.
- Experience supporting integrated systems testing and final handover.
- Strong commissioning documentation and fault-resolution skills.
Rotation and working hours
- Two weeks working on-site followed by one week off.
- Six working days per week while on rotation.
- Ten paid hours per working day, including the scheduled break.
- Contractors are paid for hours worked during the on-site rotation.
- The rotational week off is unpaid.
- No separate overtime or national-holiday payment structure applies.
Travel and accommodation
- Flights are arranged and paid for each rotation.
- Accommodation is provided for the duration of each on-site rotation.
- Contractors receive their own private bedroom and en-suite bathroom.
- Kitchen and general living areas are shared with other contractors.
- Breakfast and dinner are provided.
- Contractors may prepare lunch using the available breakfast provisions.
Contract requirements
- Available for an ASAP start or following a reasonable notice period.
- Willing to work in Narvik on the stated rotation.
- Eligible to work in Norway under an appropriate arrangement.
- Comfortable working through an approved payroll provider.
- Comfortable with mandatory 30-day payment terms and monthly payment in arrears.
- Able to provide their own laptop.
- Able to work effectively within a multidisciplinary commissioning team.
- Professional working proficiency in English.
